Nathan Bock suspended over betting scandal

December 14, 2011 by Sam Odom
GOLD Coast defender Nathan Bock has been suspended for the opening two matches of the 2012 home and away season and fined $10,000 for disclosing information that he would start in the forward line against Hawthorn at Metricon Stadium in round 24.

In the lead-up to the game, Bock told a friend in South Australia and a close relative that he was likely to play in attack.

The relative told another member of Bock?s family, who was based in Western Australia.

The information leaked by Bock saw him backed in from 100-1 to 20-1 to kick the first goal of the match.

It resulted in approximately $40,000 in winning bets in Western Australia and South Australia when he slotted the opening major from 55m out on the run.

This incident occurred only weeks after the high-profile cases involving Collingwood players Heath Shaw and Nick Maxwell.

The AFL's general manager of football operations, Adrian Anderson, said Bock did not place a bet on the match.

Why are liberals so sensitive and kooky?

I went to my local US Post Office to mail a package. I knew they would be busy and they were, about 20 people standing in line.

While waiting the P.O. was playing elevator music through the ceiling speakers then a Christmas song came over the speakers. OMG!

This late 50s guy bald on top but with a 4" ponytail and wearing purple Birkenstock clogs said in a rather loud voice, "Excuse me, isn't this a federal government facility?" One of the P.O. clerks said, "Sort of, is there a problem?"

Birkenstock guy replies, "So why is there Christmas music playing in here?"

I swear at least 10 people said, "OH PLEASE"

Birkenstock guy says, "I'm not speaking to you people!" The clerk said, "Please, let's keep all remarks to ourselves and move on. Thanks"

Birkenstock guy gets out of line and while heading out the door said, "I'm reporting this post office to my congresswoman!"

Transgender George Washington player a fascinating, inspiring story

Kye Allums is showing more guts, more bravery, than any player on any college basketball court this season.

The George Washington junior ? who used to be known as Kay-Kay ? is referred to on the school?s website as a "male member of George Washington's women?s basketball team."

Allums wants to be identified as a male, though he will not begin any medical or drug protocols until he graduates in order to preserve his eligibility on George Washington's women's basketball team. OutSports.com reported Allums will be the first publicly transgender person to play Division I college basketball.

NY's revamped Coney Island takes flight

NEW YORK (AFP) ? New York's famed Coney Island, long fallen into a state of seedy disrepair, gets a new lease on life this weekend with the opening of 19 new rides including the hair-raising "Air Race."

Mayor Michael Bloomberg hailed a renaissance for the fairground district which had been allowed to "shrink to a shell of its former glory." "Today, we're reversing that trend," he announced Friday.

Baseball Hall of Fame : John Fogerty : "Centerfield"

May 25, 2010 by Sam Odom
NEW YORK ? John Fogerty's "Centerfield" has logged more time in baseball stadiums than most Hall of Famers. Now, the classic song is about to get its due in Cooperstown.

The Baseball Hall of Fame said that "Centerfield" will be honored at this summer's induction ceremonies, the first time a musician or a song has been celebrated as a part of the festivities.

"As a little boy I loved baseball. I dreamed about being a major league player. Of course it didn't work out that way. But to be associated at all, in any way, is a wonderful honor," he said.

In The Dancing Boys of Afghanistan, Afghan journalist Najibullah Quraishi (Behind Taliban Lines) returns to his native land to expose an ancient practice that has been brought back by powerful warlords, former military commanders and wealthy businessmen.
